I once met a lady here on Nostr who lived somewhere (don’t remember where) that was quite poverty stricken.

I talked with her a bit when she would reply to me, told me times were hard, trying to buy groceries for her family but was hard to do so.

I zapped her 100k sats (back then only around $30 USD)

I didn’t think too much of it at first as it was a relatively small gesture in my eyes, however a few hours later I got a DM with a video and photo of all the food that money was able to buy.

It started me thinking about how big of a difference Bitcoin and Nostr together can have on lives, Nostr provided the contact, Bitcoin was a vehicle to get the money to her that would have been extremely hard with traditional money transfer and take a while. With zaps it was instant. She could spend it directly at her local market.

It also got me thinking about charity and about how much of an impact a small gesture can have.

This story isn’t to pat myself on the back but to share an experience that made me rethink a lot about how I view money and the internet, as well as human connection.
